The primary purposes of Navy Sailing are: Promote fleet readiness, develop professionalism, development of a competitive spirit, and imparting a love of the sea and of a skill that may be used in recreational opportunities throughout a life time using small craft training programs. Navy Sailing also encourages and assist Commanding Officers in promoting boating and sailing as part of their training and recreational programs. These missions are carried out through individual members and branches established on or near military bases worldwide.
Regular membership is open to any person who is capable, and desirous of actively participating in, or making a significant contribution to, the objectives of the Association. Family Membership, dependents age 12 years or above, is open to members of the household of a regular member at no extra cost. Special individual membership types include: Limited, Junior, NROTC, NJROTC, Branch, and Command. Special membership dues are set for each type.
TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS AND BENEFITS
Regular membership
Open to any person who is capable and desirous of participating in, or making a contribution to the Objectives of the Association. Currently dues are $32 per year. 3-year membership dues are currently $80.
Benefits include:
- Certificate from the Director of Navy Sailing (DONS) for Navy sailing qualifications awarded by certified by recognized program and certified Navy Sailing member.
- Listing of individual sailing or maritime certifications or achievements on the Navy Sailing website. This serves as verification of certifications achieved for use as may be required for MWRs, rental and/or charter companies
- Voting in Association matters:
- Election of officers
- Changing of Constitution and ByLaws
- Other matters that may arise
- Entry in Navy Sailing (USNSA) database as a Branch member
- Membership Card showing highest sailing certification and expiration date
- Listing in Yearbook
- CD Copy of Yearbook (if requested)
- Flying the Navy Sailing (USNSA) Burgee
- Boat/US membership at a discount rate
- Listing family members as Family members at NO cost
- Membership in the International Order of Blue Gavel (IOBG) if having served as a Commodore on a Navy Sailing Branch
- Access to the Member’s only section of Navy Sailing website (Includes last publication of Newsletter and Yearbook)
Family membership
Open to family members: spouse and dependents ages 12-25 at no extra charge.
Benefits include:
- Entry in Navy Sailing (USNSA) database as a Family member.
- Membership Card (Regular members).
- Flying the Navy Sailing (USNSA) Burgee
Special memberships
There are six types: Limited, NROTC, NJROTC, Donor, Branch, and Command.
NROTC membership
Open to cadets or midshipmen who are member of a Navy Reserve Officer Training Corp (NROTC) unit. Currently dues are free. Benefits include:
